The Company

Tellus Holdings Ltd (‘Tellus’) is an innovative environmental services business focused on cleaning up Australia of its hazardous waste. We aim to do this by developing world-class geological repositories and reinvesting in our communities through a circular economy and recycling technologies. Tellus has recently opened Australia’s first commercial geological repository in remote WA and has several other geological repository and circular economy projects in the pipeline.

Accordingly, we need a Head of People & Culture to safeguard these ideals and drive our culture and health and safety to be the best in the industry. You will work closely with leaders across the business to drive and increase engagement and leadership capability through coaching and other proactive strategies. Likewise, being a small to medium enterprise, you will also be comfortable working at an operational / transactional HR level when required. You will need to have experience working with both on-site and corporate teams.

Reporting directly into the Chief Executive Officer, you will lead the People and Culture function for the business.

You will design and deliver on:

  • Vision and Strategy: Work with our leadership team, as well as the organization at large, to collaboratively build upon and execute the long-term vision for all People and Culture functions, consistently improving our effectiveness and helping us achieve our overall business goals; drive future organisational design (including succession planning) and all change management initiatives to help maintain a high-performing, collaborative, and innovative team.
  • Values and Culture: Help maintain our core values and ensure that all decisions, programs, and processes are aligned with our culture and core beliefs; focus on developing a diverse, emotionally intelligent, and inclusive culture through the development of culture initiatives that increase diversity of thought, backgrounds, and perspectives. Work with employees at all levels to develop inclusive thinking and to address inclusion needs.
  • Capability and Workforce Planning: Partner with leaders to understand and anticipate hiring and development needs against the capabilities needed to deliver business objectives; prepare updated workforce plans and forecasts that support overall business goals. Development of remuneration strategy, delivery on salary benchmarking, remuneration reviews etc.
  • Performance Management: Liaise with leaders at all levels to provide HR business partnership support. Execute company-wide performance management programs that helps us identify high and low performers and drives continuous, transparent feedback across all disciplines. Assist in and conduct ‘high stakes’ conversations when needed.
  • Leadership Effectiveness and Development: Partner with the Leadership team to cultivate leadership development and effectiveness; ensure executive alignment through individual coaching and team workshops, and drive transparency, collaboration, constructive conflict and ultimately high performance that elevates business strategy.
  • Management and Leadership Training: Drive scalable solutions around making our leaders better managers; provide coaching and feedback to our existing leadership and people management team and develop programs that prepare high-potential employees for management roles.
  • Learning and Development: Arrange organisational development, and peer feedback programs that aid in growing our team’s capabilities and drive employee retention.
  • Team Building: Lead and grow our People and Culture so that we can execute effectively against goals; create and drive operational aspects such as rewards / benefits, systems, etc. This role is about ensuring that we have a capable, safe, satisfied workforce to help the business deliver on its strategy and purpose, and to help drive business productivity.
  • Other Responsibilities: Working closely with payroll to ensure compliance to legislative requirements, supporting workforce for queries and concerns relating to their contracts or pay, responsibility for raising contracts, contract amendments, adherence to fair work, leave management etc. Manage all HR legal / compliance HR Regulatory and, administer workers compensation claims, and assist with return-to-work plans. Supporting leaders for investigations, case management, performance management, grievances, terminations, fitness for work processes etc.

Requirements

  • 10-15 yrs experience
  • Experience with remote, on-site workforces and corporate HR
  • Agile/flexible

  • Demonstrated track record of implementing culture, talent and engagement strategies
  • Authentic leadership and the ability to build trusted relationships across the company, and able to communicate clearly and well at all levels of the organisation
  • Strong business acumen with an ability to “solve” with the overall business needs in mind
  • Fitness for work based (satisfactory outcome to a pre-employment medical examination)
  • Satisfactory outcome to a national criminal history record check

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources or a related discipline
  • Current unrestricted drivers’ licence
