Laboratory Technician

    • Unique opportunity to join a market disruptor that has a diverse client base, exciting equity upside and significant growth potential
    • Key hands-on role on a world class operational site
    • Secure permanent full-time position

The Company

Tellus Holdings Ltd (‘Tellus’) is an innovative environmental services business focused on safely cleaning up Australia of its hazardous waste. We do this by developing and operating world-class geological repositories that permanently manage the disposal of hazardous materials, the first of its kind in Australia.

With a culture that values being the safest place for its people and hazardous materials, trust and passion, Tellus currently operates Australia’s first commercial geological repository in regional WA and has several other geological repository and circular economy projects in the pipeline.

The Opportunity

Reporting to our Laboratory Manager/Senior Chemist, the role will be based at our operational facility – Sandy Ridge, a dual kaolin mine and waste storage facility.

The Sandy Ridge Facility is a remote residential site, with FIFO from Jandakot, Perth or DIDO from regional towns. Our operations are day shift only, working currently on an 7:7 roster. The project has a design life of at least 25 years and operates with a team of between 12 and 20 Tellus staff and contractors (per swing).

The position offered presents a unique opportunity to apply your chemistry experience in a practical environment, where you would be directly involved in the operation’s verification and immobilisation activities to safely handle and store hazardous materials.

Working closely with both our on-site and off-site teams across a number of disciplines, you will work in a fully equipped onsite laboratory, whilst also being “out in the field” assisting with hazardous materials and environmental management and monitoring.

Role Requirements

There are a few essential requirements that we are seeking.

Firstly, you will need to hold a Bachelors degree in Chemistry. A Degree in Metallurgy or similar is ok, however you will need to demonstrate strong chemistry knowledge.

You must also hold a current WA C Class Driver’s License, as there is some driving involved in the role.

Good computer skills, including using spreadsheets and writing reports, will help you in this role, as you will be required to conduct various analysis and sampling exercises and prepare their required reports.

The final essential requirement is a hunger for continual learning and the need and skill to problem solve and work in a team that is innovative in how they assess, immobilise and store hazardous materials.

Some of what you will be doing in the role will include:

  • Sampling of waste deliveries (bulk and packaged materials)
  • Operating waste characterisation; geotechnical; desktop and in-field environmental monitoring and laboratory equipment; and
  • Assisting in the upkeep of the laboratory services onsite including conducting calibration and daily maintenance of all sampling and laboratory equipment

If you have previous experience in a similar role; worked remotely; have good knowledge of the dangerous goods storage requirements; or have worked in a mine site laboratory or within the waste industry – fantastic!

However – if you don’t, that is ok as we will provide the required training you need to be successful in the team.
