Sandy Ridge Project Community Information Sessions Update

  • Tellus delivers community information sessions in Coolgardie and Kalgoorlie
  • Tellus interviewed by ABC Goldfields Radio following community sessions

Tellus Holdings Ltd (“Tellus”) as part of its third round of community consultation, hosted four public information sessions in the Northern Goldfields on the 10th and 11th of February 2016 for the Sandy Ridge Project.

The main focus of the drop-in days was to inform the public about Tellus’ proposal to develop the Sandy Ridge Kaolin mine and complementary waste storage project and discuss with community members, key environmental and social benefits or concerns associated with the proposed Project.

The drop-in days received neutral to broad support from the community for the proposed Sandy Ridge Project.

A diverse range of people attended the community “drop-in” sessions including representatives from:

  • State and Local Government
  • industry and local businesses
  • members of the public
  • local Aboriginal people/traditional owners.

Most people completed a written survey. The main issues raised were availability of jobs, the transport of waste, flora and fauna and groundwater. In response to the main issues raised:

  • Tellus has a strategy for local training, jobs and business opportunities;
  • Tellus only uses reputable transport companies;
  • the site is not constrained by any rare, threatened or endangered plants or animals under WA or Federal Legislation;
  • there is no standing groundwater table;
  • there are no known items of cultural heritage in the project’s footprint.

After the community engagement sessions, ABC Goldfields radio interviewed on the 17th February, Tellus Holdings’ Managing Director and Environment and Approvals Manager. To listen please click below
