Surveys commenced at Sandy Ridge

  • Next stage of on-site survey work for the proposed Sandy Ridge Facility commences
  • Tellus enlists the help of drone technology to drive efficiency, safety and lower cost
  • Permanent on-ground control network established

Post two rounds of successful drilling and a pilot project, Tellus Holdings Ltd (“Tellus”) has commenced the next stage of on-site survey work for the proposed Sandy Ridge Facility. The first step is the use of two Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (“UAV”) that will fly an area of 61 km2 and collect elevation data and digital aerial photography to be used in infrastructure site planning, surveying and the creation of accurate 3D maps used during the Bankable Feasibility Study, final engineering, build and operation phase.

“Tellus has enlisted the help of the two UAVs. This is innovative technology that improves safety, efficiency and lowers cost when scanning large areas and producing 3D maps. It is much faster than traditional methods and therefore can be done at a fraction of the original cost,” Managing Director of Tellus Mr Duncan van der Merwe said.

Ausurv will also establish a network of permanent ground control survey points and photo control points along both the site access roads and within the Sandy Ridge project area, using RTK or Static GPS.

The areas covered by the survey work include the Great Eastern Hwy intersection, Mt Walton Rd (100 km), site access road routes, mine and infrastructure areas and the pipeline and water supply.

Data collected by this survey work will be used in the project’s Bankable Feasibility Study and for subsequent detailed design engineering. The data also becomes an integral part of the baseline site topographic and photographic data set for ongoing site environmental monitoring during the build, operation and closure phase.
