Sandy Ridge Project Update – May 2019
- Manufacturing commences on air dome structure in the USA and modular buildings in Perth
- Pre-gate enabling infrastructure upgrades and maintenance works continue as planned
- EPC contractor continues to progress detailed design and procurement of sub-contracts
- Planning and approvals now completed for Mt Dimer air strip upgrade with mobilisation later this month
The following is a brief summary of our recent activities at our Sandy Ridge Facility
Overview
Sandy Ridge is Australia’s first dual open-cut kaolin mine and arid near-surface geological waste repository in a 70-million-year-old kaolin clay bed which is located 240 kilometers by road west north west of Kalgoorlie. The two staged works under contract align with regulatory approvals.
Stage one enabling works
Stage one enabling works at the Sandy Ridge is progressing as planned. Stage two (construction) will commence after mid year.
Stage two construction works
Stage two construction works include the remaining engineering; procurement; construction; commissioning and performance testing of the Sandy Ridge facility site infrastructure and mining of the first open cut kaolin pit (waste cell).
Engineering, procurement and project management
Tellus’ EPC Contractor (GR Engineering Services Ltd) is progressing to plan with detailed design and procurement planning of sub-contractors and suppliers.
Long lead procurement – Air dome
Manufacturing in the USA has commended and is progressing well ahead of shipping later this month.
Long lead procurement – modular buildings
Manufacturing of modular buildings is progressing to plan at Fleetwood Australia’s facility in Perth.
Building a first class accommodation village
Civil works – pre-gate (off site) enabling works
Stage one enabling works also includes targeting upgrades and maintenance of mostly state-owned infrastructure connecting Sandy Ridge to the national logistics network.
Tellus has signed minor capital works contracts with local civil contractors.
Mt Walton access road maintenance
The Mt Walton access road maintenance is progressing well with over 25km of the 100km road now completed.
Mt Dimer airstrip
Tellus is committed to provide safe and easy access for our workers and other stakeholders. Some of our workers will fly in which reduces travel time from home to site and improves worker safety (fatigue management).
Final approvals have now been received and upgrade works will commence at the airstrip later this month.
